I have the honour to enclose herewith copies of
corresɛondence with the Govamor of Hongkong, the Goverment
of India and His Majesty to Canmul-General at Shanghai regard-
ing places of detention and cost of maintenance of an Indian
convict named Abdul Jabar.
Abdul Jabar, a British Indian subject, was convicted
of murder the Judge of His Vajesty's Supreme Court and a
jury sitting at Harbin on January 24th last and was sent en cad
to death. After careful consideration of the Judge1o notes
and a petition for mere presented by the Yoslem community in
Harbin the sentence was con:uted ly His Pajesty's Kinister to
one of penal servitude for life under the muthority vested in
kim by Article 67 of the China Order in Comcil of 1904.
On his convision, the prisoner das temporarily re-
moved to His Majesty's Prison at shanghai, but as it is usual
